|Our babies from the age of eight weeks through
to eighteen months, are cared for independently on the first floor of the
house in our bright, modern Baby-Unit. Every aspect of the care of our very
youngest children; feeding, changing, sleeping and play, takes place in
purpose developed rooms. All the rooms are furnished to a high standard
and the Baby Play Rooms have been equipped with interesting and entertaining
toys and resources to aid early development.
Our experienced and qualified staff have been chosen most carefully. We know how important it is for you to be reassured that your baby is being cared for by someone you trust and are happy to leave your child with. You will find the Baby-Unit team confident and easy to talk to and they are working with our youngest children because it is what they love to do.
We operate a key person system here at Ellingham House. One member of staff being particularly responsible for each child. The Key person will naturally build a bond of friendship and trust with your baby to make them feel secure and happy in the nursery environment. This begins during the introductory visits when Katie, the Baby-Unit Supervisor, will introduce your child's key person to you and your baby.
|Each day parents are able to discuss with the key person
all the days activities and pass on any relevant information. You will
also be issued with a daily diary, containing information recording
all aspects of babies day in detail, including sleeps, feeds, drinks,
nappy changes and the days happenings and acheivements!
Easy, comfortable communication between the Baby-Unit team and parents engenders confidence and peace of mind to the benefit of you and your baby. We endeavour to look after our parents to the same high standard of care that we will take of your child.
Continuity and stability of routine and care are very important to the well-being of the very young. We endeavour to maintain and emulate the routines followed by parents at home. Staff will discuss with you the individual requirements of your baby and within the demands of a busy unit will aim to care for your child in much the same way as you do at home.
The Baby-Unit day is naturally very much governed by feeds and sleeps, activities taking place when the children are most receptive to them. The days activities reflect the individual stages of development that the various children have reached: they include songs & nursery rhymes, stories, construction toys, activity gyms, moving toys - and of course, older babies enjoy messy play / painting, water, playdough and cornflour too!
All the babies have opportunities to relax and play in the sensory room where they can explore resources which promote tactile awareness, visual tracking and hand-eye coordination. The cosy corner, in the main baby playroom, is a place where the babies can spend quite a few moments snuggled up with key staff.
Throughout the year our babies enjoy buggy rides and their first early steps in our spacious garden and we often visit the animals in the paddock. In Spring and Summer we set up outdoor resources in the enclosed artificial grass area so that the babies can independently access toys and maybe splish-splosh in the paddling pool!!
